Gaulterrible!

The Montreal Museum of Fine arts celebrates, from June, 17th to October, 2 2011 the creative genius that is Jean Paul Gaultier. Featuring almost 140 ensembles mainly taken from his couture shows, it depicts his wild and rebellious spirit, his will to subverse the image of fashion, erasing the concepts of ugly and beautiful, man or woman, fat or skinny. Once Andy Warhol said: "I think the way people dress today is a form of artistic expression. Saint Laurent, for instance, has made great art. Art lies in the way the whole outfit is put together. Take Jean Paul Gaultier. What he does is really art".
The exhibition is considered by Gaultier as a "creation on his own rather than a retrospective". It features sketches, never before seen video footage, stage costumes and just anything to enter the world of fashion' s favourite "enfant terrible"

Inspiration|Dior

Pushkin museum, Moscow. From April, 28th to July, 7th.
This is a hard one to miss, so if you will be in Moscow make sure you visit this exhibition. Many historical pieces designed by Monsieur Dior himself and also the ones by John Galliano, pieces that deserve to be considered as art masterpieces.
To reflect this, the dresses are displayed with paintings by Matisse, Quinn, Picasso, Boldrini just to name a few. The viewers are able to see the influence of those painters throughout Dior history.
Lest we forget, Dior opened in 1928 an art gallery in Paris, displaying the likes of Klee, Giacometti, Picasso.

Epitomizing contrasts

I' d really like to go to NY Met right now. Why?? Because it' s where "Savage Beauty" is taking place. It's an exhibition about the great body of work that the late Alexander McQueen has left as his heritage.
It is quite an interesting exhibition, showing how deep the reflection behind his work was and the great researches he made. That's clearly an insight of a genius' mind.
I'd suggest you to take a break from whatever you' re doing and take some time to check the Met website, to discover more about this exhibition. I was quite shocked at first, because you really get to see a great portion of this event. So without any further unuseful commentation from my part, here's the website:  http://blog.metmuseum.org/alexandermcqueen/

Check out this video introduction made by Andrew Bolton, the curator of the exhibition.

Fleur d' Excès

Just one name: Victoire De Castellane. She is the mastermind of Dior Haute Joaillerie since 1998, but has quite a résumé: Karl Lagerfeld made her the head designer of Chanel costume jewellery when she was only 19!

Her creativity brought her to design several succesful collections for Dior; now she is taking it to a whole other level, designing some exclusive pieces of art, completely handmade, inspired by flowers in which nature is seen with the eyes of hallucinations.
The collection is on display from March, 2 to the 22, at Gagosian Gallery in Paris.
Fabergé eggs, hallucinogenic effects, Alice in wonderland, pop art: these are only some of the elements that can be found in her collection.
"I start with a story, a world, never with the material. I find my stories in everything I observe and experience -- rebellion, love, sexuality, pleasure, violence, protection, psychoanalysis, and my taste for fairy tales…"
--Victoire de Castellane
