Couture season! Givenchy fall/winter 2011 2012

Are 10  pieces enough for a couture show? Yes, according to Mr. Tisci, who this season takes us on a journey inspired by the bird of paradise (both a flower and an actual bird).

These floor length gowns are extremely elaborated. Pearls give them a tridimensional look; ostrich feathers are delicately interlaced in the bodice. The embroidery is complexe but at the same time so delicate. White is predominant. A caramel hue makes its debut in the last piece, a revealing evening dress completed by a floor length fringed clutch.
Let me tell you: ten pieces are enough for a couture show, if that's the level of mastery. Bravo, Mr. Tisci.

Miu Miu f/w Ad Campaign

Last March Miu Miu's fall/winter collection made my heart beat faster. Really a great show, it depicted a more mature Miu Miu girl, without losing its touch of irony.
Well, these ads, featuring Hailee Steinfeld are definitely not my thing. I mean, the pictures are wonderful, the setting, the clothes (obviously). Bruce Weber is a great photographer. But Hailee. Def a no-no. She looks like she went through mom's wardrobe and is playing dressing up, definitely not enhancing the gorgeous clothes (she makes them look granny like). They are funny (for example the one with all the glittery shoes à la Dorothy from "the wizard of Oz"), ok, but really not catching the clothes' vibe.
Miu Miu target are girls and young women but I don' t think it suits 15 y.o. girls. At least that's not this collection's target. Hailee looked good wearing Miu Miu spring 2011, fall 2011/2012 is not her thing.
Mariacarla would have been the perfect choice. Well, Mariacarla is always a great choice.

Featuring

Donatella Versace has agreed. Next season H & M stores will be conquered by the iconic medusa for a collection that seems nothing short of gorgeous. Leather + Versace landmarks + menswear + affordable prices sound to me like a match made in heaven.

But let's now look at the past to see who's done it before...

Who in the world could have it all started? Well, none other than Karl Lagerfeld himself, in November 2004.

Gaulterrible!

The Montreal Museum of Fine arts celebrates, from June, 17th to October, 2 2011 the creative genius that is Jean Paul Gaultier. Featuring almost 140 ensembles mainly taken from his couture shows, it depicts his wild and rebellious spirit, his will to subverse the image of fashion, erasing the concepts of ugly and beautiful, man or woman, fat or skinny. Once Andy Warhol said: "I think the way people dress today is a form of artistic expression. Saint Laurent, for instance, has made great art. Art lies in the way the whole outfit is put together. Take Jean Paul Gaultier. What he does is really art".
The exhibition is considered by Gaultier as a "creation on his own rather than a retrospective". It features sketches, never before seen video footage, stage costumes and just anything to enter the world of fashion' s favourite "enfant terrible"
